Stolen Treasures (2021)

The Green Vault (das grüne Gewölbe) is one of the first museums in Europe, we know of its kind today and also contains the largest treasure collection of Europe. Established in 1723 in Dresden Germany, it keeps the personal collection of the 17th Century rich Saxon electorate, mainly consisting out of bronze statues, jewelry, silver and golden art objects decorated with precious jewels and stones.

In contrast, nowadays Saxony is one of the poorest areas of Germany. The people became disillusioned after the falling of the GDR, since a lot of jobs were gone, which caused right wing thoughts to dominate the public space that created even more social tension. In 2019 more than 100 items with an estimated value of one billion euros were stolen from the museum and the case hasn't been solved until now.

For this collage series I have cut out the actual treasures in the images. What is left are the shadows and space, which then creates a new art object again.
